Fire Extinguisher Maintenance & Installation

How often should I have my fire extinguishers serviced?

All fire extinguishers should be serviced annually to current British Standards i.e. BS 5306 part 3 and BS 5306 part 8.

All of our portable fire extinguisher Technicians are fully trained and keep up to date with all the current codes of practice and therefore deliver more than just maintenance of fire extinguishers.

What are the benefits of fire extinguisher maintenance?

Extinguisher maintenance by a highly trained Technician provides many benefits for your business.

The Technician’s first duty is to carry out the service of your portable extinguishers, to the current British Standard 5306 part 3, however, we consider many other elements are considered during our visit, such as:

  • Is the extinguisher is the extinguisher the correct one for the area, its usage and the associated risks? It may be that re-positioning the extinguisher to another area could dramatically reduce your risk.

  • The review of any new machinery, and changes of use in areas. Areas with new equipment or whose use has changed will need a new survey and potentially an increase or decrease in the number and type of extinguishers required.

  • Inspecting and highlighting damaged extinguishers.

Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

Regular servicing and maintenance of your fire extinguishers is a legal requirement. It will also give you assurance that your fire extinguishers will work when they are needed most.

We have a choice of fire extinguisher maintenance contracts available to ensure you are always kept legally compliant. We have call-out services available in the event that you need equipment refilling.

What type of extinguishers do I need?

We’ll assess your premises and work with you to plan which extinguishers you need.

The most common fire extinguishers include foam, dry powder, water, CO2 and wet chemical.

Water mist extinguishers are the newest type of extinguisher. These very powerful, but smaller devices exude an ultra-fine mist of microscopic ‘dry’ demineralised water particles. They are safe and effective to use on Class A, B, C and F fires, making it unnecessary to supply more than one type of extinguisher in most premises. Some are also suitable for use on electrical fires on equipment up to 1,000 Volts, such as computers and printers.

They work by cooling the fire and reducing the oxygen supply. These devices are likely to replace wet chemical extinguishers for the extinction of deep fat fryer fires, and leave no residue or collateral damage. Like water extinguishers, they are recyclable and do not contain any chemicals. However, they cannot be used on Class D fires (metals).
